How to get leads using Local SEO tactics in your social media posts.
If you’re a contractor doing work around a small town like Evansville, it can be hard to come up with social media posts that can target those local leads. After helping contractors, builders, and other small businesses with their digital marketing, I’ve seen how easy it is to let your Facebook page go by the wayside.
How do you keep up with your social media and still do a good job running your small business? Here are a few tactics that I’ve come up with that have helped my clients in the past.
Know Which Services Get the Best Leads
Even if you rank #1 for “Evansville kitchen cabinets,” that won’t do you any good if you only make 5% markup on the cabinets. Pay attention to which of your services make you the most money. For example, while I offer all my clients a high caliber of web hosting and support, SEO consulting is how I’m going to make a living. So I lead with SEO, and my excellent web hosting is just a flair benefit to them.
Knowing the best services to share on social media is a great first step to getting better leads from your Facebook page, but don’t stop there.

Show off your team on Social
You don’t have to be obnoxious and tag all of your staff, but if a happy customer sees Ricky in your post, you’re more likely to get some organic responses. “Ricky did great!” Kinds of comments go a long way on Facebook. Organic social credibility multiplies your customer base.
Other forms of celebrating birthdays or life accomplishments of your employees work great too, as long as you respect whatever level of privacy they expect. “A baby shower for one of our project managers” might be a better post than “Julie Renae was born today at 2:30am and here she is with her recovering momma!”
Mention Neighborhoods
Neighborhood names can be very specific. If you post a picture of some work you did, name the subdivision you are in. Even better, name the subdivision where you want to get more clients. Just like people used to look for a mention of their own name in the newspaper, people get excited when there’s good attention on their neighborhood.
Instead of saying “In Southern Indiana” say “In Arcadian Acres in Evansville, Indiana.”
Use Detailed Close Up Pictures
It’s tempting to post a big wide shot of work you’ve done, but that will blend into all the other pictures on social media. Take a close-up detailed picture and it will stand out. It will also give you more mileage because you can take five closer detailed pictures at a site that you might normally take one wide shot. Now you have five social media posts from one job instead of just one.
Make Time to Get it Done
Knowledge and tactics aren’t any good without execution. Set some time early in your week to have a cup of coffee and write out a social media post or two.
In local SEO, consistency is better than keywords, tactics, pictures, or clever slogans. In the age of AI, influencers, and affiliate marketing fakers, quantity really does beat quality.
Make yourself a goal to post every week and then once you do that successfully for a month, give yourself a cheap reward and do it again. Before long, you’ll have a good library of content for people to browse through when they’re thinking about hiring you. And of course, if you need help coming up with or executing the strategy, call me.
(BTS note. This post was written using Ulysses on my phone while I sat at the Sam’s Club on Burkhardt eating the meat pizza special. The coke machine was busted, so they were giving out free ICEEs instead! Double Win!)
